A new build Coach House on land in a conservation area
The client brief was to develop a small subservient dwelling for he and his wife to move into whilst retaining the family home for his son. The client expressed his wish to create a property that is modern and able to suit his needs over time as he and his wife get older and for his extended family to be able to use.
The original brief was to create a new family home next to the existing property to make use of a large plot of vacant land. A scheme was developed to make use of the space and compliment the existing dwelling. However due to the land being within a conservation area the council did not see it as a positive development and refused the application. In further consultation with the client and the conservation officer / planning department a smaller coach house scheme was developed which subsequently gained outline planning approval.
